Financial Support

Provided that satisfactory progress is maintained, all students accepted into the program are awarded full support, including a stipend, full tuition, and health insurance.  In the 2019-2020 academic year the annual stipend level is $39,528. 

Students are strongly encourage to apply for outside fellowships during their senior year of undergraduate study. Fellowships that our students have been awarded include the National Science Foundation, National Defense Science and Engineering, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and Hertz. Foreign applicants may be eligible for funding from Harvard-related sources based in their home country as well.

Application Fee Waivers

If applying to the program causes financial hardship, you may request a fee waiver form by e-mailing the GSAS Office of Admissions at admiss@fas.harvard.edu. Please include "fee waiver" in the subject line. Requesting a fee waiver does not affect your chances of admission.

Travel Funding

Each student in the program is provided a one time  travel award in the amount of $2,500 to cover the costs of attending a scientific meeting/conference.

GSAS Conference and Summer Research Grants

The Graduate Student Council offers grants for conference attendance and summer research on a competitive basis to GSAS students who are enrolled full-time in a degree-granting program or who are GSAS Special Students, who are members of the Council and whose department has been represented at GSC monthly meetings. http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~gsc/funding_01_conf_grants.php
